TTOF Reminder For April 2023

2023 Passover Celebration

Passover commemorates the Biblical story of Exodus — where God freed the Israelites from slavery in Egypt. The celebration of Passover is prescribed in the book of Exodus in the Old Testament (in Judaism, the first five books of Moses are called the Torah).

以下是 2023 年逾越节的日期:开始和结束于日落:2023 年 4 月 5 日至 2023 年 4 月 13 日(如果庆祝 7 天,则在 4 月 12 日结束)In more traditional Jewish communities–including both Orthodox and Conservative communities–Passover is celebrated for eight days. Here are the dates of Passover 2023: starting and ending at sundown: April 5, 2023-April 13, 2023 (ends April 12 if celebrated for seven days)

The holiday of Passover (Pesach in Hebrew) is perhaps one of the most central to Jewish life and history. More widely observed than any other holiday, Passover celebrates the biblical account of the Israelites’ redemption and escape from 400 years of Egyptian slavery. Holiday rituals include a dramatic retelling of the Exodus story and many unique food traditions. We come together with friends and family to celebrate the great lessons of the story: the blessing of freedom and the reminder that since we were once slaves and were freed, it is our responsibility to work for freedom for all people, everywhere.

The word “Passover” is derived from the Hebrew word pasach, which means “passed over,” referring to the 10th plague that killed the Egyptian firstborn, but miraculously “passed over” the houses of the Israelites (more on that below).

Story of Passover

Found in the Torah, the Passover story tells of the Israelites’ slavery, deliverance, and escape (“the Exodus”) from Egypt.

The story begins with Joseph, son of Jacob, who was sold into slavery by his brothers and arrived in Egypt as a poor, powerless servant. Joseph’s wisdom and ability to interpret dreams soon brought him power and status, though, and he became the Egyptian king’s trusted advisor. His entire family joined him in Egypt, as did many of the rest of the Israelites. There they prospered and multiplied for many generations.

But a new king (“pharaoh”) came to power in Egypt – one who did not remember how helpful Joseph had been. The Israelites’ numbers had greatly increased over many years, and the new Pharaoh was suspicious of them, fearing they would someday rise up against him. So he treated them harshly, forcing them to work as slaves in terrible conditions. Nevertheless, the Israelites survived and continued to multiply.

Dismayed by their fortitude, Pharaoh took harsher action, declaring that all sons born to Israelite women should be killed at birth. The courageous Israelite midwives, Shifrah and Puah, defied this decree, but the infant boys were still in great danger.

When an Israelite woman, Yocheved, had a baby boy, she feared for his life. She placed him in a basket and set him floating in the Nile River, near where people came to bathe. As Yocheved’s daughter, Miriam, watched from a distance, Pharaoh’s daughter came to the river and found the baby in the basket. She took him, named him Moses (“drawn from the water”), and raised him as her own.

Growing up in the palace, Moses knew very little of the life he might have led. As he grew, however, he became aware of the plight of his people. One day, seeing an Egyptian taskmaster beating an Israelite slave, Moses killed the taskmaster.

Realizing what he had done, Moses fled to the land of Midian, where he married a Midianite woman, Tzipporah, and became a shepherd.

Tending his flock one day, Moses came upon an amazing sight – a bush that was burning, but not consumed. God spoke to Moses there, telling him that Moses and his brother, Aaron, would free the Israelites from slavery. Moses was unsure anyone would listen to him, but God promised support and powerful signs, so Moses left Midian and returned to Egypt.

Moses and Aaron went to Pharaoh and demanded Pharaoh free the Jews (“Let my people go,” Moses tells Pharaoh in Exodus 5:1). But Pharaoh, skeptical that Moses spoke on behalf of God, refused. In retaliation, Pharaoh forced the Israelites to work even harder and beat them mercilessly.

God then told Moses that, as proof of God’s power, the Egyptians would suffer a series of plagues until Pharaoh agreed to let the Jews go:

Turning the water of the Nile to blood
Frogs
Lice
Wild beasts
Cattle disease
Boils
Hail
Locusts
Darkness
Slaying of the Egyptian firstborn

During the last plague, God killed the firstborn of each Egyptian family, but “passed over” (thus “Passover”) the houses of the Israelites (who had marked their doors with lamb’s blood), leaving their children unharmed. With this plague Pharaoh finally relented, and let the Israelites go. They hurriedly packed and left Egypt, without enough time for their bread to rise (hence the holiday’s prohibition on eating leavened, or risen, grain products, and the custom of eating matzah).

Pharaoh immediately regretted his decision, and his army chased the Israelites to the Red (actually “Reed”) Sea. With the sea ahead of them, and Pharaoh’s army closing in behind, the Jews appeared to be doomed. At that very moment, though, God told Moses to stretch his staff over the sea, and, in perhaps the greatest miracle in all of Jewish tradition, the waters parted, allowing the Jews to cross on dry land.

Just as they reached the far shore of the sea, the waters closed, drowning Pharaoh and his soldiers. Moses, Miriam, and all the Israelites sang songs of praise to God for their deliverance, including Mi Chamochah, which appears in our modern liturgy, and the Israelites began their journey in the desert.

Reminder for December 2023

Christmas miracle is the story of a child that was born to a virgin named Mary. Jesus was born to the virgin Mary contrary to the law of nature.

As a child, Jesus lived in poverty and raised in obscurity. He did not travel extensively; only once he leaves the country in which he was born when during his childhood, he ran for his life into Egypt to escape King Herod’s plan of killing two years old and younger.

He possessed neither wealth nor influence. His relatives were inconspicuous, uninfluential, and had neither training nor formal education.

In infancy he starts over-teen.

In childhood, he starts over-puzzle over the doctors.

In manhood he ruled the course of nature. He walked upon the billows of the sea of Galilee as if they were tamers. He spoke and the waves were still. He silenced the raging sea with three simple words “Peace, be still!”.

He healed the multitudes without medicines and made no charge for his service.

He never wrote a book but he had all the libraries of the world that can not hold the books that have been written about him to explain his glorious life.

He never wrote a song and yet he furnished the theme for more songs that all the song writers have ever written combined.

He never founded a college yet all the schools put together can not boast having as many students as this man.

He never practiced medicine and yet he had healed the most broken hearts than all the doctors far and near.

He never marshaled an army nor drafted a soldier nor fired a gun and yet millions have followed him with peace that surpass all understanding.

Every Sabbath day the wheels of comers seekers turning, multitudes find their place to a place of worship to bow their knees before the Lord Jesus Christ.

The names of past proud states of Greece and Rome has come and gone, but the name of this man abounds more and more.

Through times, we have passed two thousands years between our generations and the scene of his crucifixion and yet he lives with power and great glory.

Let’s read Math 1:18-21

18 This is how the birth of Jesus the Messiah came about: His mother Mary was pledged to be married to Joseph, but before they came together, she was found to be pregnant through the Holy Spirit.

19 Because Joseph her husband was faithful to the law, and yet did not want to expose her to public disgrace, he had in mind to divorce her quietly.

20 But after he had considered this, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream and said, “Joseph son of David, do not be afraid to take Mary home as your wife, because what is conceived in her is from the Holy Spirit.

21 She will give birth to a son, and you are to give him the name Jesus, because he will save his people from their sins.”

Christmas is a celebration of a child.

Isaiah 9:6 For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.

From the above scripture, let us focus on his name. His name is above every name by virtue of his accomplishment.

All high sounding titles which earthly commanders has given themselves historicly were given to gratify their vanity and their ego.

Alexander The Great is the high sounding title for a man who died at age 32 with unknown decease. He was not great because he could not comfort himself.

Herod The Great is a lofty title for a man who murdered many wives and his children. On the day he died, he ordered his kingdom to execute his oldest son so that Israel has a reason to mourn. Israel hates the Herod because he was like a monster with a lofty title but he was a cold-blooded killer. The day he screamed for mercy in the fire of hell, Is Herod The Great? Obviously not.

There is one man who walks across the stage of human history whose greatness is greater than the human tongue can tell. He is the Great I Am; He is the Great Physician; He is the Great Shepard who guides and provides.

Never in the human history there was a child that was born of a living God from the womb of a virgin; but Jesus was.

Never in the human history there was a man who was wounded by Satan and yet he crushed Satan at the cross; but Jesus did.

Never in the human history there was a savior of men and yet he was crucified by men; but Jesus was.

Never there was a man who died and buried and yet rose again on the third day as he said he would; but Jesus did.

The tomb of Abraham is in Israel and he is still there. The tomb of King David is in Israel and he is still there. But the tomb of Jesus Christ in Israel is empty; he is NOT there. The tomb of Jesus Christ is the only tourist attraction where people lining up to see nothing.

The greatest question of your life in this Christmas season is not what on your tree but do you know Jesus Christ the savior who died on the cursive tree for your salvation and for mine.

Have you accept him as savior Lord? Do you serve him? The Bible says “Every knee shall bow and every tongue shall confess that Jesus Christ is Lord and the glory of God”.

Jesus is here right now. His name “Emanuel” means “God is with Us”. He is calling your name. He can save you. There is no one else that can save you. He can heal you because he is the great physician. He will deliver you. The King rules! He lives! He is coming again with great power, glory, honor and power to the name of Jesus Christ. Hallelujah Amen!

Today, He is proclaimed of God, acknowledged by angels, and adored by saints. He is our joy, our hope, and our eternal salvation. Have you accept him as savior Lord? Do you serve him? The Bible says “Every knee shall bow and every tongue shall confess that Jesus Christ is Lord and the glory of God”.

Reminder For September 2022

September is the arrival of Jewish New Year called Rosh Hashanah (Sep 25-27) or Feast of Trumpets that brings a great opportunity to renew our faith and love for God and Jesus. It’s also a wonderful time to renew the joy of salvation in our hearts, as a new creation in Christ. “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come” (2 Corinthians 5:17).

Here are the feasts of the Jewish calendar and their associated prophetic fulfillment:

Passover – Christ’s sacrificial death on the cross

Unleavened Bread – Christ’s blood atonement at the altar

First Fruits – Christ’s resurrection from the dead

Pentecost – Writing the Law on the hearts of believers (the Holy Spirit indwelling the Church)

Feast of Trumpets – The rapture of the Church

Day of Atonement – The seven-year Tribulation

Feast of Tabernacles – The arrival of the Kingdom

The first four of these feasts (i.e., Passover, Unleavened Bread, First Fruits, and Pentecost) saw their prophetic fulfillment in Christ’s first coming. In each case, these feasts were fulfilled on the actual calendar day of the feast, so Jesus died on Passover, He was resurrected on the Firstfruits, the Spirit came on the day of Pentecost, etc.

The last 3 have not been fulfilled. The next prophetic event, the feast of Trumpets, will kick off end time events with the rapture. John 7:37-38

13 And you also were included in Christ when you heard the message of truth, the gospel of your salvation. When you believed, you were marked in him with a seal, the promised Holy Spirit,

14 who is a deposit guaranteeing our inheritance until the redemption of those who are God’s possession—to the praise of his glory.

Romans 8:15

15 The Spirit you received does not make you slaves, so that you live in fear again; rather, the Spirit you received brought about your adoption to sonship. And by him we cry, “Abba, Father.”

12 What we have received is not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit who is from God, so that we may understand what God has freely given us.

2 I would like to learn just one thing from you: Did you receive the Spirit by the works of the law, or by believing what you heard?

6 But now, by dying to what once bound us, we have been released from the law so that we serve in the new way of the Spirit, and not in the old way of the written code.

Romans 8:9-11

9 You, however, are not in the realm of the flesh but are in the realm of the Spirit, if indeed the Spirit of God lives in you. And if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, they do not belong to Christ.

10 But if Christ is in you, then even though your body is subject to death because of sin, the Spirit gives life because of righteousness.

11 And if the Spirit of him who raised Jesus from the dead is living in you, he who raised Christ from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies because of his Spirit who lives in you.

John 1:12-13

12 Yet to all who did receive him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God

13 children born not of natural descent, nor of human decision or a husband’s will, but born of God.

Why Should We Believe?

43 Not so with you. Instead, whoever wants to become great among you must be your servant

44 and whoever wants to be first must be slave of all.

45 For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve and to give his life as a ransom for many.

Gospel According to Paul

Romans 3:23-24

23 for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,

24 and all are justified freely by his grace through the redemption that came by Christ Jesus.

1 As for you, you were dead in your transgressions and sins,

2 in which you used to live when you followed the ways of this world and of the ruler of the kingdom of the air, the spirit who is now at work in those who are disobedient.

3 All of us also lived among them at one time, gratifying the cravings of our flesh and following its desires and thoughts. Like the rest, we were by nature deserving of wrath.

4 But because of his great love for us, God, who is rich in mercy,

5 made us alive with Christ even when we were dead in transgressions—it is by grace you have been saved.

6 And God raised us up with Christ and seated us with him in the heavenly realms in Christ Jesus,

7 in order that in the coming ages he might show the incomparable riches of his grace, expressed in his kindness to us in Christ Jesus.

8 For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God—

9 not by works, so that no one can boast.

10 For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.
